Korean Hanja Surnames

This table of surnames comes from the appendices of Bruce K. Grant's "A Guide to Korean Characters : Reading and Writing Hangul and Hanja", (Elizabeth, NJ, Hollym International Corp, 1979). The romanisation was not provided in the original, as each character was given a hangeul pronunciation to the right. They are listed by order of most frequent use, in the order across each row from left to right.

Only one character amongst this lot is not in Unicode 2.1, that being the character bracketed (稽) Hye. The lower right portion 旨 should be replaced by 山.

Romanisation of Jamo

The Korean readings were originally in hangeul, which are composed of jamo elements. I have modified the South Korean ISO/TR system slightly; consonant <r> is romanised as <l>, and the consonant <c> is romanised as <ch> in the table of surnames.
